Our Company History
In 1993, Southern Shutters Shades & Blinds opened its doors in Austin as Southern Shutters. We rented an old ball bearing cleaning factory just off Howard Lane and N. I35. Space quickly became an issue due to increasing demand. In the early years, we relied on larger companies to supply us with raw shutter panels. However, we wanted to control the quality of the shutter panels we were installing. This sent us off to find land upon which we could build our own manufacturing facilities and thus control all aspects of production.
In early 1996, property was purchased east of Austin, in Manor, Tx. Plans were drawn up for 10,000 square feet of shutter production space. At this time, we incorporated our name as Southern Shutters, Inc. Construction was completed in November of 1997, and we moved into our present day factory on Beltex Drive in Manor.
In 2003, responding to increased demand for blinds, we added our own private line of high quality 2" and 2 ½” wood and faux wood blinds, hence adding the “& Blinds” to our name. For 15 years, Southern Shutters Shades & Blinds provided quality products via in-home consultation only. In 2008, we opened our first showroom in Georgetown, Texas and expanded sales of Hunter Douglas products. The showroom provides a comfortable location where customers can become familiar with all of the products and services Southern Shutters Shades & Blinds offers.
