Prepare Your Windows for Safety This Summer

June 17, 2014

shutterstock_134872523With summer knocking on your front door, many people are ecstatic to be able to finally lay back, relax, and enjoy the summer sun. Some people are buying the right food to make for the perfect outdoor barbeque, while others may be busy picking out the perfect spot on the beach. What everyone wants to make sure of, however, is that we all have a safe and fun summer. Many people may not know this, but safety involves many things, including your windows. Here at Southern Shutters, we want to make sure you are able to enjoy your summer safely, so we have a few window safety tips for you to make that possible!

One of the most important things in window safety is making sure that nothing is blocking or preventing window from opening. This way, during an emergency, you will be able to exit your home quickly and efficiently. Another important tip is to make sure that no furniture, or anything that a child can climb, is near a window. Then, you are not only able to protect yourself, but your entire family, even the littlest of members!

Do not fully rely on insect screens to prevent your little one from falling through the window. Insect screens are used for ventilation, not child protection. Making sure your windows are not painted or nailed shut during spring repairs is another really important safety tip. Though it may not seem like a lot, these few, yet important, tips will ensure your family’s safety and fun this summer season!
